Photographer and Artist

Kgalo

A Texas native with a BA in Fine Art (1999), Katharine initially rejected studio work due to fear, she found her way back to painting as a means to cope with anxiety; and it soon became clear this was a solid path. Now at 57, she has committed to deepening her practice and taking her art beyond the hobby stage.

While her photography primarily captures botanical portraits, her paintings lean toward abstract expressionism. Katharine works across various mediums, including acrylic, oil, gouache, ink, and mixed media. Influenced by Cy Twombly, Rothko, Kandinsky, and Frankenthaler, her work reflects a blend of emotion and spontaneity.

Outside the studio, she finds inspiration in gardening, reading, music, golf and continually evolving her artistic journey.

"To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." - Winston Churchill
